In the early part of this century we started making 'RAID' commercials, featuring those famous roaches, re-designed by myself based on the old designs by Don Pegler. Our relationship with the agency lasted many fruitful years and we created lots of fun commercials. Last year the client Johnson & Johnson decided to change the agency and the inevitable happened - we lost the account. New creative teams don't like to inherit production companies, they want to pick their own, I can understand that. But I was always very fond of those characters and since I designed the new incarnations, we decided to pitch a new approach and try and get the campaign back. From talks I had with the client a few years back, I knew he was keen to try a CG version of the roach but somehow he never green-lit a test. So we surprised the new agency with the little clip you can see below, in the hope that we would get a chance to pitch on the next commercial. We sent the test off and waited. We waited for weeks and weeks and never got a reply. Only after several probing emails we eventually got acknowledgement of the receipt of the film but with no comment, just a mention that it'll be passed on. Since then we've heard, you guessed it, nothing. Not a 'thank you, we like it', nor a 'thank you, we don't like it'. Nothing, not a peep.
In order for our efforts not to be completely wasted, here is the test for you to enjoy. Animation is by Boris Hiestand. Thanks Boris!
Pfff, so rude! You can guarantee your test will be ripped off and used regardless.
